Budget Weddings & Other Needs

Having recently gotten hitched myself, I understand that there's a need for affordable wedding photography in the Tampa Bay / Saint Petersburg area.  My wife and I wanted our wedding to be a big party with all of our friends, but we didn't want to spend a fortune.  If you can't afford my prices, or your wedding day needs don't quite fit into one of the pricing options listed above e.g. you'd like to have prints made for you, please contact me and we'll see if we can work something out.

More Info

My name is Jed Mootsey and I specialize in wedding photography in St. Petersburg and Tampa, FL.  I was born here, in Pinellas County and after a couple of years in Tennessee I'm back in the Saint Pete.  I love the beach and the laid back, relaxing lifestyle that Florida offers.  While I always strive to maintain a professional appearance, attitude and quality when I'm working, I'm much like the state I live in. I'm a very easy going, flexible person to work with.  If you'd like to learn more about me, please visit my info page.

One of the great advantages of digital photography is that the photographer not only shoots the photos, but also has the ability to do their own post-processing (something that was in large part left to lab technicians in the days of film).  This gives the photographer an even greater opportunity to subtly add their own style to the photos they shoot.  I believe the results are (usually) much better when you can start with a good photograph, and then make minor adjustments through photo editing software afterwards, than when you start with a mediocre picture and spend a lot of time editing it in Photoshop.  However, there is definitely something to be said about having knowledge and skill in editing software.

I try to create the best image possible while it's still in front of the lens.  That way, the time spent in editing the photos on the computer is predominantly spent touching up, and bringing a sense of uniformity to the photos, instead of trying to salvage poor shots into workable photos.

When I shoot a wedding, I aim to take photos that accurately depict your wedding day.  If it's a bright, sunny, outdoor wedding I try to capture that in the photos, if the colors you picked out are vibrant and bold, I want you to be able to remember that when you look at your photographs years down the road.  Whether your wedding theme is vintage, antique, elegant or just unique, I do my best (both in shooting and editing) to use my skill to accurately portray your wedding.

I've used both Canon and Nikon, but these days I use professional Canon equipment.  In my opinion, the debate about "which camera company is better, Canon or NIkon?" is mostly personal preference.  I think for a lot of photographers, it comes down to which camera company you started using first.  The bottom line is that both Nikon and Canon make high quality imaging products.  Personally, I prefer the Canon system and I think their cameras do a better job of accurately depicting colors.  As for lenses, I have an assortment, but the majority of them are made by Canon.  I also use Canon's Speedlight flashes because they work wonderfully with my camera.  And, as for accessories such as tripods and light diffusers, I have an assortment of accessories that work well with camera.
